Farallones is inspired by the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) off the Northern California coast. Farallones (Spanish for "cliffs") are a set of islands sometimes referred to as The Devil’s Teeth by mariners - citing the many dangerous underwater shoals and shipwrecks. The opening section in 7/4 depicts the rugged environment around the islands. Descending scalar motifs and trills emphasize the fluidity of the seascape. The 12/8 section is a development depicting the resilience and dangerous beauty of the area.

Nisqually Glacier Views was commissioned by the North County Honor Band in Battleground, Washington, for their 2023 festival. One of the most majestic and recognizable landmarks in Washington state is Mount Rainier. With 25 named glaciers, there is no shortage of beautiful places to visit. Best viewed from the Nisqually Vista Trail, near Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park, the Nisqually Glacier is a favorite of many visitors and one of the most visited in the park. The Glacier was first photographed in 1884 by Allen Mason, which has laid the groundwork for a photographic history of over a century. Over the decades, the Nisqually Glacier has had many periods of retreating and advancing in size. US Geological Survey and National Park scientists continue to study and monitor the Glacier and its impact on the area.

Brigid of Kildare is a two movement work based on the life of Saint Brigid, one of the patron saints of Ireland. According to tradition, she founded a monastery in Kildare under a large oak tree on the site where a shrine to the Celtic goddess Brigid stood. The sessile oak is now the national tree of Ireland. Movement I: The Oak Tree, paints a picture of a majestic tree with deep roots and soaring branches that grant shade and protection to those who need it. Brigid's feast day is February 1st, which was originally a pre-christian festival called Imbolc, marking the beginning of spring. Processions, festivals, feasts, and dancing were all a part of the celebration and continue to this day in many areas. Brigid represents the light half of the year, ushering in the brightness of spring out of winter's darkness. Movement II: Spring, incorporates feelings of joy at the returning light and new life of springtime.

Megan Vinther's spirited "Bigfoot Stomp" is an uptempo funk chart inspired by one of the Pacific Northwest’s favorite cryptids, the Sasquach. Entire organizations exist to study Bigfoot and prove its existence, and groups regularly search the mountains and forests of the Pacific Northwest, looking for the ultimate proof of existence. The piece includes solo changes for Tenor Sax 1, Trumpet 2, and Trombone 1 and dynamic backgrounds for others. Rhythms section parts are written out but more advanced students should feel free to ad lib for a large part of the tune as long as it fits with the style.

Megan Vinther's "Salish" is the opening movement of her larger work, "Salish Suite." A love song to the Salish Sea in Washington state, "Salish" is a sentimental tribute to Vinther's family and her late father. A lively 3/4 groove accompanies a simple yet profound melody and lush, ethereal pads of chords create a shimmering backdrop throughout. Solos are offered for Tenor 1, Trumpet 2, and Trombone 1. While the rhythmic scheme of the piece is straightforward for most high school groups, the instrument ranges (particularly in lead trumpet and lead trombone) are more advanced.

The Salish Jazz Suite is a six movement work that draws inspiration from my life experiences growing up on and near the waters of the Salish Sea. These feelings and experiences are intertwined with my grief following my dad's passing from a brain tumor on 2017. My dad, Doug Huston, was a lifelong sailor and was the catalyst for my love of being on the water. He and my mom, Joy, made sure that we experienced and understood the beauty, power, and fragility of the Salish Sea together as a family. Many of my favorite childhood memories are from days spent on our small sailboat. The suite was premiered in 2023 by the Girls' Ellington Band under the direction of Kelly Clingan at the Royal Room in Seattle, WA.
