
Bio
Megan Vinther is a Seattle area composer, performer, and music educator who is passionate about creating welcoming communities through music. She has taught in secondary public schools since 2003 and is currently the director of instrumental music at Everett High School in Everett, Washington, and served as the conductor of the Edmonds Concert Band at Edmonds College from 2021-2025. As frequent adjudicator and guest conductor, Megan works with ensembles across the region to provide insightful feedback and musical leadership.
Megan holds a B.M.E. and M.M.E. from the University of Oregon, where her focus was on music education and F Horn performance. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Megan has spent the entirety of her career in Washington and Oregon. Recent commissions and collaborations with the Wintergrass Youth Orchestra, North County Honor Band, Bluegene Brass Quintet, and Seattle JazzEd have been met with delight by conductors, performers, and audiences alike. Her compositions can be found on her website, MeganVintherMusic.com, and are published by Murphy Music, Brava Jazz, Randall Standridge Music and Carl Fisher Music.
In her free time, Megan enjoys performing with her Celtic band – The Stumbling Fiddler, spending time on the water, and traveling. Megan and her husband/musical partner, Nick, have three children and a dog named Murphy.

Educator
Since 2003 Megan has been directing bands and orchestras in the public school. Megan is currently the director at Everett High School in Everett, WA, and served as the concert band director at Edmonds College from 2021-2025. Her jazz bands, concert bands, and orchestras have consistently earned top marks at regional festivals, including participating in the 2015 Swing Central competition in Savannah, GA. Megan is the current music advisor for Seattle JazzED and collaborated with the Seattle JazzED Girls Ellington Project for the premiere of her jazz suite “Salish” in 2023.

Composer
Megan’s award winning compositions have been published by major publishing companies like Carl Fischer, Randall Standridge Music, Murphy Music and Brava Jazz. She has written pieces for concert band, jazz band, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Her talent has been sought out by schools and organizations who have commissioned her to write new pieces.

Clinician
Megan is regularly asked to act as a clinician and adjudicator for jazz and concert band festivals. She enjoys sharing her expertise with her colleagues through conference presentations. She had the honor of presenting “The Art of Being a Female Band Director” at the WMEA Conference in 2020, “Radical Inclusion: Building Community in the Secondary Big Band” at WMEA 2024, and “Breaking the Brass Ceiling: Femme and Non-Binary Representation in Jazz” at All-NW 2025.

Performer
Megan keeps her chops in shape by playing accordion with her Celtic band, The Stumbling Fiddler. She is the current leader of a local professional big band, Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra. Megan can often be found subbing in on piano, trumpet, or percussion in a myriad of ensembles around the Seattle area.
