The Salish Jazz Suite is a six movement work that draws inspiration from my life experiences growing up on and near the waters of the Salish Sea. These feelings and experiences are intertwined with my grief following my dad's passing from a brain tumor on 2017. My dad, Doug Huston, was a lifelong sailor and was the catalyst for my love of being on the water. He and my mom, Joy, made sure that we experienced and understood the beauty, power, and fragility of the Salish Sea together as a family. Many of my favorite childhood memories are from days spent on our small sailboat. The suite was premiered in 2023 by the Girls' Ellington Band under the direction of Kelly Clingan at the Royal Room in Seattle, WA.
